How is Rondout Valley RV Campground? First, let me explain a little bit about us and what we look for in a park. We are a full time RV couple with no kids or pets. We tend to work during the week and explore on the weekends. We like to participate in some of the activities at the campgrounds and walk around in the evenings. Full hookups and good internet/cell connection is a very high priority for us.

When did we go? August 7 – 28, 2022

The basics – There are over 300 sites and only a portion have sewer and of those, a lot are annual sites. We lucked out and got the last sewer the day we arrived. Water pressure was decent but did not taste great. We had 50 amps.

It was easy to get into the park itself and there is a long driveway for RVs to line up inside the gate (some folks arrive at like 8 am in the morning). There is a narrow bridge in the park but we were ok. It is a little nerve wracking through.

Our internet was ok but ornery. We were able to work, but some things took a little while longer to load. Our site was under some trees, which may have contributed.

There were extensive hiking/running/biking trails here and I did not explore them all, despite running them 2-3 times a week and a very long walk with Bret.

It is included in the Thousand Trails membership and is a Thousand Trails park.

We have used RV Trip Wizard to plan every trip since we got on the road in November 2020. We love RV Life so much that we have partnered with them. If you’re looking for a planner for your RV trip, this is what we use!

Amenities & activities in the park

This park had some of the BEST activies and schedule I’ve seen in a park (outside of Peace River). There was something every day of the week. Some of the recurring activies weren’t as well attended (Bret tried to play kickball a few times and no one showed up). We did play candy bar bingo several times and had a blast. The weekend events and activities were always hoppin’.

On the first weekend we were there, they had a “build a buddy” event and I thought about participating, but they ran out of the unicorns. Thankfully, I was able to buy one the last weekend.

The amenities in the park were great too. Bret swam in the pool, we got snacks a few times at the snack bar, and played bocce ball with our own rules with friends.

Activities outside of the park

As most of our stays recently, we hung out in the park mostly. Little background on the Gs – we actually spent part of our honeymoon in Poughkeepsie, which is only 40ish minutes from the park.

Groceries – I shopped at the Walmart down the street, but there is an Aldi 30 minutes the other direction. We also stopped by a beer store, Half Time in Poughkeepsie that actually had a nice selection of non-alcoholic beers (I, Jennilyn, do not drink).

Hikes

We did one hike here – Lemon Squeeze and Eagle Cliff

This was such a fun hike and I highly recommend it. I clocked it at 9.32 miles and it was about 1400 of elevation gain. We hiked with some new friends with kids of all ages and everyone enjoyed it.

Restaurants

After the hike, we drove into Poughkeepsie to go to Mahoney’s. We also went to this restaurant on our honeymoon. Check out the story from my personal Facebook page. (Below or to the side depending on the device you’re on.) They had some incredible Shepherd’s Pie! But then again, everything tastes great after a good hike.

What we’ll do next time

It seems when we visit a place, we find twice as many new things to see and do than when we arrived. Here are a few that you may want to check out.

Gertrude’s Nose Trail and Millbrook Mountain Loop Our other friends hiked this after we left and it looked amazing!

Walkway Over The Hudson our neighbor noticed our bikes and gave us a map of the Walkway Over The Hudson. It’s a paved walk/bike trail that goes over the Hudson and goes through Poughkeepsie.

Bouldering/rock climbing throughout the New Paltz area. When we went on our honeymoon here, we brought our rock climbing gear. While we still have our shoes, we sold our crash pad years ago.

Have you been to Rondout Valley RV? What did you think?
