When we first started looking into full time RVing back in 2016, one of my biggest questions was how to read while traveling in an RV? I’m an avid and voracious reader and regularly read over 100 books a year. At the time, I was reading physical books primarily, so it was a very important question.

There are several ways to access books while you travel. You can bring physical books with you and then trade them out as you go. Most campgrounds will have some sort of library with a leave a book, take a book policy. You can also use Little Free Libraries. These are super cool and exactly what they sound like! In some areas we travel, I’ll see if there are any near us and go check out what they’ve got. I think the cutest was in Gunnison, CO.

Another option is eBooks. This is a way to take essentially unlimited books with you. You can access these through your public library,  Amazon, or any number of platforms.

Lastly is audiobooks, another way to bring unlimited booked with you and this is my favorite option. I use Hoopla and Overdrive via my public library. I rarely can’t read a book using these two apps. You also have an option of speeding up the book. I typically do 1.75-2x fast (a secret to how I read so much each year).

I love listening to audiobooks while driving, more so when we’re not towing since you have to focus so intently. I wanted to share a few of my highest recommended audiobooks for road trips.

The full Harry Potter audiobook series, read by Jim Dale. I’m actually listening to this for my 4th time right now. Jim Dale is an amazing reader and even does voices for each character. The link is for the first book in the series.

Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist – I’ve loved all of Fox’s books, but this one in particular was a great listen during one of our road trips. Funny enough, he talks about a road trip he took in the book and it was the same route we were taking! He is a super encouraging guy and hearing how he has handled what life has thrown at him is very inspiring.

Keep Moving: And Other Tips and Truths About Aging – This is still one of my all-time favorite books. He talks about aging and how to stay young. He talks about his experiences throughout his life. We were very encouraged by this book.

You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth – I’ve read this book four times and am currently on my fifth read. Jen Sincero has such a fantastic way of explaining things. I’ve loved all her badass books, especially this one. Hearing her read her words is also pretty helpful to get the concepts she’s sharing. I still point to this book as the most life-changing in my thoughts about money and myself.

The Summer Seekers – I find a lot of books randomly on Hoopla and Overdrive, just by scrolling through suggestions for me or new audiobooks and that is how I found this book. It is told from the perspective of three women at very different places in life. It involves a cross country road trip in the US, is funny and also very encouraging.

Oona Out of Order – What if you lived your life out of order? What if you celebrate your 18th birthday and then wake up in your 50th year old body? This is the question Margarita answers. I loved this book so much and listened to it again immediately after I finished. For me, this made me think – if I knew the future of my life, would I change anything? (Spoiler, I wouldn’t.)
